A right royal campaign: food brands celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee just around the corner and a bonus bank holiday to boot, food brands are jumping at the opportunity to celebrate.

Special occasions like these always bring exciting opportunities for fun food and drink campaigns and we’re expecting big things from the official partners of the event, including British brands Marks & Spencer, Cadbury, Waitrose and Fortnum & Mason, alongside international favourites Moët & Chandon, Whispering Angel and McDonalds.

The official pageant partners aren’t the only ones getting in on the royal action, though. We’ve already spotted a few regal campaigns and product launches in the wild (well, the supermarkets), and these are our favourites so far.

Heinz Salad Queen

Two of the nations’ favourite condiments have had a royal makeover in time for all the picnics, BBQs and parties taking place over the bank holiday weekend.

Heinz HP Sauce and Salad Cream have been upgraded to HM Sauce and Salad Queen for a limited time only – adding a squeeze of fun to the celebrations. The tongue-in-cheek campaign imagery features a butler serving the condiments on a silver platter, adding a touch of elegance to the everyday product.

M&S Jubilee caterpillar cake

Who says caterpillar cakes are just for birthdays? Everyone’s favourite Connie the Caterpillar has had a royal upgrade for the Jubilee. With two limited editions including Jubilee Connie the Caterpillar, complete with regal robe and crown, and a cute Corgi adorned with a Union Jack – no street party will be complete without them.

Cadbury collectable tins

In traditional Cadbury fashion, the chocolate brand have released a limited edition Roses tin for the Platinum Jubilee. To reflect Cadbury’s long-standing relationship with the monarchy, the iconic tin has had an appropriately regal makeover.

Adorned with their usual red roses alongside a crown and the dates of the Queen’s record-breaking reign, the tin doubles up as a piece of memorabilia once you’ve eaten all the chocolate. You’ll have to act fast if you want one though, as they’re flying off the shelves.

Iceland’s Big Jubilee Lunch

For the second year, Iceland is teaming up with the Eden Project charity for The Big Lunch campaign – encouraging communities to come together and celebrate their connections.

This year’s Big Jubilee Lunch takes place on the Sunday of the bank holiday weekend and Iceland have launched a range of jubilee-themed street party food and drink to cater for the event. Featuring a £1 Lunch Value range for savvy spenders, a selection of desserts, and Union Jack emblazoned napkins, plates and bunting – they’ve really thought of everything.

PG Tips corgis

One of the nation’s favourite tea bag brands, PG Tips, have also joined forces with The Big Lunch, encouraging people to get together for afternoon tea. They’ve released a limited addition packet of tea bags featuring a fun corgi print (we’re noticing a theme here…) to make the celebrations a little extra special.

Of course, food brands aren’t the only ones joining in on the Platinum Jubilee fun. Other official pageant partners include Burberry, Air Partners, Boodles, Bloomberg and St James’s House, so we’re sure to see royal campaigns launching across all industries.
